Love Language Test
15 questions, about 3 minutes, no email required. Find out how you most naturally give and receive love, and what to actually do with the answer.
What are the five love languages?
The framework comes from marriage counselor Dr. Gary Chapman, who noticed couples in his practice kept missing each other: one partner showed love by doing things, the other only registered words, and both felt unloved while genuinely trying. He sorted the patterns into five languages: words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, physical touch, and receiving gifts.
It is a communication model, not settled science, and researchers debate how strictly the five categories hold up. Used loosely, it does something genuinely useful: it gives you and your partner shared vocabulary for “this is what lands for me,” which is a conversation most couples never have explicitly.
How to use your result
- Share it, with examples. “Quality time” is abstract; “I feel loved when we cook together without phones” is actionable.
- Learn theirs. The whole point is that your partner’s language may not be yours. Give love in their currency, not only your own.
- Watch for it under stress. When people feel disconnected, they usually starve in their primary language first.
Common questions
Is the love language test accurate?
It measures preference, not personality, and it is a self-report, so treat it as a conversation starter rather than a diagnosis. The most reliable signal is your own reaction to the result: if it names something you already suspected, use it.
Can my love language change?
Yes. Life stage, stress, and the relationship itself shift what you need most. Parents of young kids famously drift toward acts of service. Retake it when things feel different.
What if my partner and I have different love languages?
That is the normal case, and the useful one: it explains why two people can both try hard and both feel shortchanged. The fix is deliberate translation, giving love in their language even when it is not your native one. Abby is good at helping you script those conversations.
